
Summary
Waqf, through waqfpreneurs, drives socio-economic development and entrepreneurship, requiring skilled professionals to ensure sustainable growth and prevent asset mismanagement. Despite its large Muslim population and waqf potential, Indonesia faces waqf management challenges due to nazhir shortcomings and a lack of skilled professionals, necessitating a deeper understanding of waqfpreneur motivations. Thus, this article explored the under-discussed area of waqf-based entrepreneurship, identifying key motivational factors. We demonstrate that self-commitment, entrepreneurial skills, and family support significantly drive waqfpreneur motivation. Furthermore, we proposed a categorization of waqfpreneurs based on waqf-asset volume and management capacity. We believe this article contributes to the literature on entrepreneurship and waqf, offering insights for stakeholders to foster waqf-based entrepreneurship and enhance waqf asset development and benefit distribution.
